On Monday, the TRIFED (Indian Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation) signed a deal with Purty Agrotech of Jharkhand to promote pearl cultivation in tribal regions. The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs oversees the Trifed.

Purty Agrotech pearls will be sold via 141 Tribes India stores, as well as several e-commerce platforms, as part of the arrangement.

The Purty Agrotech centre will become a Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Cluster (VDVKC). In addition, Jharkhand is planning to build 25 VDVKCs for pearl cultivation. Trifed authorities stated on the occasion that oyster breeding and pearl creation was a viable business model that tribals with access to local water bodies could readily implement.

“The government is embarking on ambitious transformative programmes that will prove to be game-changers for tribal lives in the coming years,” said Arjun Munda, the Union minister for tribal affairs.

The TRIFED has also reached an agreement with Big Basket, an e-grocery portal, to promote and sell natural ‘Van Dhan’ goods. Trifed’s managing director, Pravir Krishna, said the company was trying to discover new and better marketing possibilities for distinctive tribal goods and small forest produce on both the local and international markets. He went on to say that both of the Trifed’s new projects would go into action on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.
