The Ministry of Health has clarified that candidates for the NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Test) can only choose one quota group. NRI students from the SC, ST, and OBC categories would no longer be eligible for reservation privileges in the forthcoming NEET exams.
Aspiring NRI students have also pointed out that if they choose ‘Indian’ as their nationality, they are denied places at central, state, and recognised institutions under the NRI quota. Even though they have Indian citizenship, this system of categorization discriminates against NRIs.
