From September 3 to 16, 2021, a 200-strong force of the Indian Army will take part in Exercise ZAPAD 2021, a multinational exercise being held in Nizhniy, Russia.

ZAPAD 2021 is a Russian Armed Forces theater-level exercise that will largely focus on counter-terrorist operations. This hallmark event will bring together over a dozen countries from the Eurasian and South Asian regions.

An all-Arms joint task force will be present in the NAGA Battalion group participating in the exercise. While planning and executing the exercise, the goal is to strengthen military and strategic relations among the participating nations.

The Indian contingent has undergone a rigorous training programme that includes mechanised, airborne, and heliborne operations, counter-terrorism, combat conditioning, and shooting.
