The Good Governance Index 2021 was released on Saturday by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, with Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa coming out on top. The framework for the Good Governance Index, GGI 2021, includes 10 sectors and 58 indicators.
“Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa are at the top of the composite rank score, which includes ten sectors. In GGI 2019 parameters, Gujarat saw a 12.3% gain and Goa had a 24.7% increase. In a statement, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions stated.
According to the statement, Gujarat did well in five of the ten areas, including economic governance, human resource development, public infrastructure and utilities, social welfare and development, judiciary, and public safety.
Maharashtra has excelled in agricultural and related industries, as well as human resource development, public infrastructure and utilities, and social welfare and development. Goa has performed strongly in agriculture and associated sectors, trade and industry, public infrastructure and utilities, economic governance, social welfare and development, and the environment.
According to the indicator, Uttar Pradesh’s performance in GGI 2019 improved by 8.9%. UP has the highest ranking in the Commerce & Industry sector, as well as increases in Social Welfare & Development and Judiciary & Public Safety. Uttar Pradesh has also done well in terms of citizen-centered government, such as public grievance resolution.
Jharkhand has increased its performance by 12.6% compared to GGI 2019. Jharkhand has outperformed the rest of the country in seven of the ten sectors. Rajasthan has improved by 1.7% compared to its GGI 2019 performance. Rajasthan has won the category of Other States (Group B) in the areas of Judiciary and Public Safety, Environment, and Citizen Centric Governance.
Mizoram and Jammu and Kashmir, both in the North-East and Hill States categories, have had overall increases of 10.4% and 3.7%, respectively, over GGI 2019. In the areas of business and industry, human resource development, public health, and economic governance, Mizoram has excelled. Jammu & Kashmir has increased its scores in the Agriculture & Allied Category, Public Infrastructure and Utilities, and Judiciary and Public Safety sectors, and has performed well in the Commerce & Industry sector.
With a 14% gain over the GGI 2019 indicators, Delhi topped the composite rank in the Union Territories category. Delhi has excelled in all areas of agriculture and allied sectors, commerce and industry, public infrastructure and utilities, and social welfare and development.
Twenty states have increased their aggregate GGI scores over the GGI 2019 index scores. The States’ and UTs’ sector-wise scores show that they performed well in one or both of the sectors. The results of the scoring also show that there is only a minor difference in the composite governance scores of the state
