From the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested a new version of the Akash Surface to Air missile Akash Prime on Monday.
“In comparison to the existing Akash System, Akash Prime has an active Radio Frequency (RF) seeker that improves accuracy. Other enhancements guarantee more consistent performance in low-temperature environments at greater altitudes, according to a DRDO release. The flight test was conducted using a modified ground system of the current Akash system, according to the report.
The missile intercepted and killed an unmanned aerial target that mimicked hostile aircraft in its first flight test following modifications, according to the DRDO.
DRDO Chairman Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team on a successful flight test, saying Akash Prime will enhance the Army and Air Force’s confidence.
